Synopsis:

The world where the Hero and the Demon King continue to oppose each other. The grand magic from the Hero and the Demon King cross over worlds and exploded in the classroom of a certain high school.

The students who died in the explosion will be reincarnated in a different world. The protagonist, who had the lowest reputation in the class, was reincarnated into a spider. Nevertheless, she adapted quickly to the present condition with strong willpower.

This is a story of she who has become a spider trying whatever she can to live.

Personal Review:

The story starts off with a lighthearded, comedic feeling. It gives off the feel of a gag manga, but progressively reveals itself to be a hidden gem of a novel. This novel has one of the best worldbuilding and lore I have ever read. The lore is very expansive and the characters have hidden depths to them that comes to light over the course of the story.

One issue however is that the timeline of the story gradually becomes erratic as the story continues, as there are numerous side stories that shift back and forth between past and future events. This sort of story flow may seem strange and unintuitive, but it allows a logical buildup of events that further makes the reveal that much more exciting when the numerous side stories begin to overlap with each other. This novel is definitely the best Japanese novel I have read to date and I definitely recommend for others to read it.

Personal Review:

In this novel, the MC has to travel across different story worlds and  solve quest lines and complete missions in order to increase his strength. What makes this novel stand out for me is the fact that those story worlds are not lifted from existing movies/stories, rather they are original creations of the author. This is in direct contrast to other novels such as Ultimate Evolution and Terror Infinity which directly take material from existing movies/stories and have their characters inserted directly into those worlds.

Synopsis:

This is a fantasy story set in a world where mysterious spiritual beings known as Gu exist. Humans that have learned to harness this power are called Gu Masters. The story starts with the MC Fang Yuan, a demonic Gu Master, being chased down by individuals from the righteous sect. With no way out, he is forced to use his mysterious Gu, the Spring Autumn Cicada. He is transported back 500 years into the past during his teenage days.

Personal Review:

Reverend Insanity is very similar to Warlock of the Magus World. In both these novels, the main characters’ ultimate goal is immortality and both MCs are villains who are coldblooded enough to the point where they are willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone in order to achieve their goals. The main highlight of this novel for me is the worldbuilding and lore of the story. The side stories detailing the creation mythos of the novel are quite interesting even by themselves and serve as both an introduction to the various strange Gu that exist in the world, as well as serving as a cautionary tale for storyline characters about the dangers of these Gu. Another thing I like about the novel is the fact that the MC is extremely meticulous and detailed in his planning, but is still capable of adjusting on the fly should any unexpected events pop up.

Synopsis:

Series of short snippets detailing the love story of our protagonist.

Personal Review:

This is a short and fluffy romantic comedy that I would recommend to fans of the genre.

There are some emotional segments in the story that really help build up love and appreciation of the characters, while still keeping the general tone of the story happy, hopeful, and upbeat despite the problems the characters encounter.

Synopsis:

Fang Ming, a scientist in a futuristic world, dies and reincarnates into a medieval world of fantasy. His trusty AI chip implant is somehow sent together with him, and thus starts his quest for immortality.

Personal Review:

This is one of the few novels I’ve read that actually has a ruthless, and outright villainous MC. He is deeply obsessed with immortality and will stop at nothing in order to achieve his goal, even if it means dooming everyone else. The main highlight of this novel for me is the lack of plot armor and OP powerups that most MCs have. Leylin can only rely on his wits and schemes in order to get ahead in this world, because he is frankly not the most talented nor the most well off in the new world. That is why it is always exciting to see how the MC can overcome his problems, as the novel leaves hints behind what he is plotting but only reveals everything at the end of the arc. This builds up a sense of mystery and suspense for the readers as they try to guess how the MC will weasel his way out of the predicament he finds himself in. The worldbuilding and lore in this story is also very detailed and I feel there are no major plot holes in the story.

Synopsis:

The novel follows Theodore Miller, a student in a prestigious magic academy who is on the verge of being expelled. Despite having a great understanding of magic theory, the MC lacks the talent for casting spells, which is the main criteria for deciding whether mages can graduate or not. At the end of his rope, Theodore visits the magic library and happens upon a grimoire that attaches itself to him. This changes his destiny forever and embarks him upon the path of a mage.

Personal Review:

The main selling point of this novel for me is the worldbuilding as well as the mythologies that are present in the story. There is a mix of eastern and western fantasy mixed into the lore which creates an interesting situation where martial arts and magic coexist. The plot also progresses in unexpected directions, which I like. While the plot at the beginning is fairly linear, it begins to diverge and go down interesting paths later on.

Synopsis:

Humanity has been gradually transported to the Abyss by a bored god to compete against other races and monsters. And in a fantasy world filled with dragons and other strange creatures, it is not surprising that humanity finds itself at an incredible innate disadvatange. At the cusp of total annihilation, the few remaining humans decide to go all in and send one of their own back in time to better prepare for the apocalypse. This is where our MC Hansoo comes in, as he is unanimously voted to be the one sent back.

Personal Review:

The time travel theme is not something new and is rather over used. But this story does do a decent job of using this type of narrative. Even though the MC has travelled back to the past, he does not retain any of his previous skills, only his memories. This ensures that he is not immediately overpowered, and he is forced to use his wits and smarts in order to ensure his survival. There are admittedly a lot of plot holes in the story; however, the main feature of this novel for me is the constant sense of suspense it leaves the reader in. The MC constantly finds himself in situations where he either kills or he will be killed.
